Many times, women will ask our technologists at our various DIS centers on the proper way to conduct a breast self-examination. While there are numerous pieces of literature available, as well as many online resources, here is a step-by-step guide we like to recommend.
Of course, your doctor, nurse practitioner or other health care provider can also recommend the best ways to examine your breasts.
The important thing is to do it on a monthly basis. Regularly examining your breasts on your own can be an important way to find a breast cancer early, when it’s more likely to be treated successfully. Not every cancer can be found this way, but it is a critical step you can and should take for yourself.
