From a recent story posted locally comes this excerpt:

Federal law allows hospitals to charge facility fees for outpatient services at affiliated clinics, regardless of whether the clinic is anywhere near the hospital. The clinics may have the same equipment, staffing and operating expenses as a private practice, and may look much the same as a private practice, but the simple fact that they’re connected to a hospital entitles them to charge that extra fee.

Then another excerpt:

Therefore, patients may receive two separate bills for each clinic visit: one for the physician, and one for the use of the facility, supplies, and staff services… the charges added together represent the total charge for each visit.

And that is part of the reason the world of healthcare is so complicated and frustrating to understand.

When you are recommended by your medical provider to have an imaging test such as an ultrasound, MRI or CT, make your life easier. At Diagnostic Imaging Services, there are no ‘separate’ bills. No multiple charges for simply walking through the door to have a test.

At DIS, one fee covers everything from start to finish. You don’t get anything from our doctors. Nothing from our firm stating you need to pay us for the use of the equipment. Nada. Zilch. Zero.

In healthcare, it is referred to as “global billing.” At DIS, we simply refer to is as patient friendly.

Say “no thank you” to a recommendation to go to the hospital for an imaging exam. Go to the hospital when it’s absolutely necessary. But when not an emergency, choose independent and save.

Say YES and spend LESS at DIS.
