When researching MRI magnets, keep in mind the signal strength needed in order to get the highest quality MRI exam. A 3T MRI delivers twice the field strength of traditional 1.5T MRI scanners, providing greater detail in both structure and function. 3 Tesla MRI, or 3T MRI, is currently the gold standard in many areas of medical imaging, including oncologic, neurological, orthopedic and urological practices.
Magnetic Resonance Imaging plays a central role in oncology. Without using any potentially harmful ionizing radiation or radio-active markers, MRI is a widely accepted technique for patients of any age.
The DIS 3T system has the best capabilities for tumor identification and characterization during all steps of disease management – screening, surgery planning, therapy monitoring, and follow-up. By providing metabolic and diffusion information, MR goes beyond pure imaging.
3T MRI is often used to evaluate patients with a number of neurological conditions, including brain laceration or skull fracture, brain or spinal tumor, stroke, multiple sclerosis or epilepsy.
Key 3T applications specific to orthopedic imaging show improved sensitivity in the evaluation of targeted injuries to small joints such as wrists, hands and feet — as well as improved non-arthrographic joint imaging specific to shoulders and hips.
At DIS, our new generation 3T MRI is used with special protocols and Computer Aided Detection software (CAD) for all prostate exams. If a man has an elevated Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) level and/or a positive Digital Rectal Exam, a 3T MRI may be the next step before a biopsy. Alternatively, a prostate 3T may be appropriate after eight weeks or more following a negative TRUS-guided biopsy.
All these advanced capabilities combined with the increased magnet strength provides many benefits — at no additional expense to you.
